The End (feat. Scenic Route)
LYRICS:
If only I could see it; If only I could find my home; If only I could be set free from this apathy That dulls the pain within my aching soul. I can't just hide here any longer Beneath a smile that pretends to be strong; I can't keep on living life just to find another way To ease the hurt for another few songs. I can't keep running away from the pain inside; I don't just want to escape time after time. I have nothing left to offer; not a thing to call my own. The pain in my heart is coming out for all to see, And I've never felt so empty and alone. I can't keep running away from the pain inside; I don't just want to escape time after time after time. So maybe here at the end of myself Lies the beginning of all that I've longed for. And maybe here where I've lost all hope in this world, Maybe here is where dreams are born. Maybe here is where life begins. Where life begins. I have nothing left to offer—not a thing to call my own. The tears in my heart are coming out for all to see, But maybe these tears will lead me home. Home. I'll be chasing these tears 'til they lead me home, Where dreams are born. |

LINER NOTES: This song is quite possibly the oldest on this album. Looking back, I've come to see the song as a sort of hesitant, mournful acquiescence to a certain sort of spiritual death—the death of that often dangerous blend of intellectual certainty and youthful emotionality—which leads to a new depth of life and love and feeling in faith.
